Shadow on the Wall

“There are times, Catarina, when I find myself transfixed by a shadow on the wall, or the splashing of water on a stone. I stare at it, the hours pass. The world around me drops away, replaced by worlds being created and destroyed by my imagination.”

A little bit about me: My name's Denise. I'm a college student, majoring in theater. Ergo, I love to act! I also like big words and spend large portions of my time writing fan fiction and original works. I'm a proud nerd and you'll probably see a plethora of posts related to my various obsessions!

Speaking of my obsessions, I love:
Star Wars, Star Trek, Firefly, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, Mythbusters, Teen Titans, the Inheritance Cycle, Syfy's Alice, and other wonderful things that I can't think of right now!

FYI: Most of the images and GIFs aren't mine.

Quark: How can hiding in one of Julian’s adolescent programmes be a good sign?

Bashir: Hey.

Jake: It could be worse. He could be hiding in the Alamo programme.

Leeta: Or that ridiculous secret agent programme.

Bashir: Hey…

Rom: Or that stupid Viking programme.

Bashir: Hey!

Sisko: All right.

DAX I can’t believe you did that.
KIRA He didn’t leave me any choice.
BASHIR What did she do?
DAX She knocked out Lancelot.
KIRA He kissed me.
DAX He’s supposed to kiss you.
KIRA But I was playing a married woman.
BASHIR Lieutenant Commander Worf, this is Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax, and Major Kira Nerys, our first officer.
WORF (to Kira) Nice hat.
KIRA (defensive) I don’t always dress like this. We were in the holosuite…
WORF So I gathered. (turns to Dax) You used to be Curzon Dax.
DAX That’s right. (smiling) And I don’t usually dress like this either.
WORF Curzon’s name is an honored one among my people.
DAX (mischievous, in Klingon) Louk, a jeek CHIM-ta law. (Yeah, but I’m a lot better looking than he was.)

I’d also like to say that what you just did was one of the kindest, dearest and for you, one of the most embarrassing things that I have ever heard. You’re a real sweetheart.

A Debate About Why Barclay's Holodiction is Considered Wrong, and Tom Paris' Is Not →

kiddywonkus:

Or, as I like to title it, “In defense of Barclay.”

Don’t get me wrong; I like Barclay. Heck, I practically am Barclay. And, like the article says, he was excluded and given the short end of the stick many, many times. However, the reason why his relationship with the holodeck is portrayed as a negative, versus that of Tom Paris and Julian Bashir, is right in the title. Barclay suffers from holodiction or addiction to the holodeck. In Star Trek canon, individuals can get addicted to the holodeck, just as modern individuals can get addicted to drugs, alcohol, or (more relevant) computer games. All of these release pleasure chemicals into the brain and we can get hooked on the feeling they create and dependent upon what unleashes those chemicals. Addiction is not the same as really enjoying something and being unwilling to stop; it is a sickness in which you are unable to stop. That is the difference.
